Symphony Orchestra
The Symphony Orchestra is an advanced full symphonic orchestra including strings, winds, brass and percussion. The students in this orchestra are generally in high school and the upper grades of middle school.
For more information, see the Symphony Audition Requirements Intermediate String Orchestra - Are able to read first position notes on all 4 strings without difficulty.
- Know how to play in the following major keys: D, G, F, and C.
- Are able to respond to accidentals.
- Have begun 3rd position if he/she plans on trying out for first violin.
- Know martelé, detaché, and legatto bowing.
- Are at Suzuki equivalents - Book 2 or equivalent
- Meet the minimum age requirement - 4th grade
Note: Placement by audition assessment & teacher recommendation. Beginning String Orchestra - Must be able to read notes on all 4 strings in first position.
- Know simple rhythms including quarter notes, eight notes, and half notes.
- Know the difference between F# and F natural.
- Can draw a decent sound with a straight bow.
- Previous orchestra experience helpful but not necessary.
